Contrada ARCURÌA - Passopisciaro

20 hectares of vineyards on five different types of volcanic soils. Between 600 and 700 meters above sea level, in Passopisciaro, on the north side of the volcano. A natural amphitheater exposed to the cold and dry winds that blow from the north. Perfect place, capable of offering perfect ripeness in difficult years and of preserving nervousness and acceleration in hot years. 15 hectares of Nerello Mascalese, 4 hectares of Carricante, 1 hectare of Catarratto cultivated in espalier with a planting spacing of 2 meters by 0.80 meters with more than 6,000 plants per hectare; a part is planted with sapling, ungrafted, with a density of 10,000 plants per hectare. The age of the vines varies between 15 and 70 years.

Contrada FEUDO DI MEZZO - Passopisciaro

An extension of 1.5 hectares of 80-year-old vineyard at 600 meters above sea level. Planted in Nerello Mascalese and a small part in Nerello Cappuccio, planted with sapling. Surrounded by olive and almond trees. Very sandy soils with a fine texture. Place where every fruit ripens luxuriously. It is the first vineyard to be harvested every year, it gives us a large and generous wine.

Contrada MUGANAZZI - Passopisciaro

The historic property that once belonged to the brilliant and mysterious Ettore Majorana, in the heart of Passopisciaro at 700 meters above sea level, is now planted for 2.5 hectares in Nerello Mascalese and 3 hectares in Carricante.

Contrada SANTO SPIRITO - Passopisciaro

0.9 hectares of Carricante planted in 2019. Today they are the youngest vines of the company

Contrada BARBABECCHI - Solicchiata (Altitude 1000 meters above sea level)

Alberello vineyard with an extension of 2 hectares, at 1,000 meters above sea level in Solicchiata, on the north side of Etna, planted in Nerello Mascalese about 100 years ago ungrafted, on terraces and dry stone walls among apple and chestnut trees , balsamic herbs, stones and olive trees. A place of paradox: Nordic climate and African sun. At this altitude, the grapes are harvested in November. Hence a wine that combines depth and austerity. Bottled only in vintages of great expression.

Vineyard OVER THE WELL in CONTRADA ARCURÌA - Passopisciaro

1.5 hectares of vineyard planted in Nerello Mascalese. An in-depth research carried out in 2004 on the soils of the district highlighted the diversity of texture, profile and chemical composition of each individual vineyard. For years, tasting all wines blindly immediately after the harvest, one is always recognizable for transparency, lightness, fluidity, but also for complexity: a hermetic wine. This wine is precisely the one that comes from "Sopra il Pozzo", a vineyard that since the zoning study done years before had a soil different from all the others: a continuous alternation of layers of stone and coarse sand called "recast" . Vineyard capable of expressing transparency and depth at the same time. Bottled only in vintages of great expression.

The great diversity between one vintage and another and between one vineyard and another is the richness of our territories

The great diversity between one vintage and another, between one vineyard and another, strongly characterizes our wines and endows them with an unparalleled peculiarity. This variability, of which Nerello Mascalese manages to be a chameleonic and shocking interpreter, year after year manages to amaze and excite us too. We love and want to make wines that focus on truth and expressive authenticity.
