Nicolas Potel is an iconic producer and pioneer in the Burgundy wine scene. He grew up in a family dedicated to wine; and after gaining some experience at an international level, he started his own project at the end of the 90s. La Maison Roche de Bellene offers a full range of carefully cultivated and versatile wines, often made from old vines. All of the House's wines are produced respecting sustainable and natural agricultural practices, with minimal intervention necessary to showcase their individual terroirs.

This Chassagne-Montrachet comes from vines with an average age of 55 years and was vinified in large 500 liter barrels, then aged for 13 months in 20% new wood. This wine shows great concentration, grip and complexity. The nose explodes with aromas of peach, pear, toasted walnuts and custard. Medium to full bodied, textural and open, this is a ripe, rounded Chassagne that is ready to drink straight away.

This will sing along with butter-based sauces and creamy seafood dishes.

Etymology – History

The origin of Chassagne could derive from the following etymology: Cassanea, which designates a cassine or small house. For some, this

ancient Gallic term means a place planted with oak trees.

From a viticultural point of view, the writer M.J Lavalle informs us that in his time Chassagne was mainly cultivated with Pinot (approximately

174ha) and Beurot (Pinot gris).

Chassagne obtained with a decree of 27 November 1879 the authorization to add that of Montrachet to his name.
