1 BOTTLE X 100cl

The Beefeater is a full bodied and slightly experienced gin; his production follows the original recipe studied by James Burrough: the botanicals are immersed in the distillate of barley and corn for 24 hours.

The distillate at 80.0% vol. it is brought to Scotland where it is diluted at 40.0% vol. (47.0% for the US and New Zealand market and bottled.

The botanicals are:

Juniper berries harvested in September in Italy and Macedonia

Bitter orange peel from Seville, is the main ingredient after juniper.

Lemon peel harvested in March in Spain, which contributes to the citrus flavor.

Root and angelica seeds from Belgium, which give woody and earthy notes

Coriander from Russia, with peppery aftertaste

Lily root from Italy, with a small addition of Parma violet, which gives the floral aftertaste

Licorice from China

Bitter almond oil

James Burrough, a pharmacist born in Ottery St Mary in 1835, bought the "Taylor & Son" liquor distillation company in Cale Street, Chelsea district in 1863 for £ 400 (about € 35,000).

James Burrogh applied his knowledge by integrating the recipes used by the previous management with his studies; in 1871 he moved the offices behind the distillery, into Marlborough Square, into the palace where he lived.

In 1876 the production included James Burrough London Dry, Ye Old Chelsea and Old Tom Style gin, a catalog to which he added a new brand, the Beefeater London Dry gin.

The Beefeater was almost immediately successful, and in 1895 the official recipe was laid out and the Beefeater was declared the company's flagship product.

In 1897 James Burrough died, and the company passed into the hands of his son Eric.

In 1906 they built a new building at 26 Hutton Road, in the Lambeth district; the new site was named Cale Distillery (in honor of the historical site), it was supplied with new stills J.Dore & Co., and in 1908 the production was transferred to the new distillery.

In 1911 he won the gold medal at the Festival of the Empire; six years later, in 1917, the company began exporting gin to the United States.

In 1958 the company was relocated to Montford Place, Kennington's district.

In the sixties, neighboring areas were purchased, enlarging the perimeter of the factory.

The Burrogh family sold the company to Whitbread in 1987, which sold it in 1991 to Allied Domecq, which since 2005 has been part of the Pernod Ricard group.

After the acquisition, the French multinational has invested heavily on the brand, making it the flagship gin of the company.

The Beefeater is one of the last four gins produced in the city of London: the Beefeater distillery headquarters are located in 20 Montford Place, in the Kennington district.

It covers about 9000 m², divided into offices, warehouses and production sites, where there are five bronze Carterhead alembics, three of which with a capacity of 3,200 l, and one of the two smaller used for the Beefeater 24.
