The history of aged rums in Guatemala is strongly linked to the name Botrán, one of the founding families of Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala. In the mid-20th century, five brothers of the Botrán da Burgos family in Spain settled in Guatemala. Over time, this family has managed to perfect the art of rum production through the combination of old European traditions - such as the Solera aging system -, with the use of local resources, such as crystal clear mountain water, selected special types of sugar cane and advanced processes to obtain concentrated sugar cane juice.
