In 1502, Leonardo spent six months of his life in Romagna, at the court of Cesare Borgia. He was struck by the beauty of the Romagna vineyard landscapes, the quality of the fruit and wines produced, and the ingenuity of a method for hanging grapes for drying.

It was here that he drew two bunches of Romagna grapes with the inscription: "Uve Portate a Cesena." Tracing his journey, 1502 Da Vinci in Romagna is the line dedicated to wines from the finest Romagna vineyards.
