Cascina Fontana

Mario Fontana / Monforte d'Alba

"I learned the art of winemaking from my grandfather Saverio, and I continue to follow his teachings, doing many things the way they used to be, just as he did them."

Cascina Fontana is a family-run winery located in the hills of the Langhe del Barolo, near Alba, Piedmont. This area of rare scenic beauty, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, features hills embroidered with vineyards and villages dominated by imposing medieval castles, offering splendid views of the valleys below.

It is here, on these lands dedicated to wine production, that the Fontana family has cultivated 5 hectares of estate-owned vineyards and produced the region's great wines for six generations. Today, Mario Fontana continues the tradition by cultivating the typical Langhe grape varieties: Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo.

In 2015, Mario began his first experiment with sulfites-free winemaking using a Nebbiolo from vineyards in La Morra and Castiglione Falletto. This ready-to-drink red focuses on freshness, revealing great elegance and complexity over time—a true Triple "A" wine.
