Fascinated by the ancient and almost mystical land of Umbria and by a wine of extraordinary power and longevity, Sagrantino, the Lunelli family acquired Tenuta Carapace, 30 hectares of vineyards in the municipalities of Bevagna and Montefalco, in 2001. Their efforts initially focused on the vineyards, now converted to organic farming, with new plantings and the enhancement of existing ones through a complex clone selection project. In 2003, Montefalco Sagrantino was launched, followed the following year by Montefalco Rosso.
