THE 2022 VINTAGE
2022 was characterized by a dry and warm autumn, followed by a rainless winter, with precipitation concentrated primarily in the second half of February. These conditions continued into spring, with a lack of rain and a gradual rise in temperatures, which became high during the summer months. The second half of August, however, was blessed with some rainfall, which, combined with a good temperature range, created optimal conditions for grape ripening. The harvest began on August 31st, significantly earlier than the traditional harvests at Biondi-Santi.
THE ORIGIN
The 2022 Rosso di Montalcino was produced through a careful selection of grapes from estate-owned vineyards.
THE AGEING
The 2022 Rosso di Montalcino was aged for 12 months in Slavonian oak barrels.
THE EMOTION
From an extreme year, in terms of drought and heat waves, a red wine with a rounded, intense, and lush character. The nose is initially an explosion of fruit: ripe cherry, blueberry, black plum. Then spices, blue flowers, and mint. The palate is succulent and yet very rich, with sensations of morello cherry, blood orange, and star anise. The young tannins are somewhat tight, yet fine-grained, while the acidity is subdued and helps keep the wine balanced and taut. The finish is layered and relaxed, very delicious.
