An ancient variety that is part of a large pear family common not only in Italy but also throughout Central Europe, with varying sizes and shapes but very similar in flavor. Summer Moscatello pears are also called St. Peter's pears because they ripen early, as early as the end of June, and are a comfort to country folk during haymaking. We harvest them from old trees in Alto Adige and partly from our own production. The distillate we obtain from this splendid fruit (delicious, sweet, and easily eaten in one bite) has an intense, fresh, and intriguing aroma vaguely reminiscent of Moscato grapes. It pairs beautifully with blue cheeses such as natural Gorgonzola, Roquefort, and Stilton, or with mature fermented raw milk cheeses.
