Today, we present what we believe to be one of the greatest Barolos we have produced, the expression of a vintage that will go down in history and therefore deserves to be celebrated...

Few producers have had the opportunity—or perhaps the great fortune—to work in such a special vineyard, partly owned by us since 1956. It is a great responsibility for us to engage with the magnificent wines that Vigna Rionda has given birth to, while also paying homage to the work of those who came before us, their hard work and their sacrifices. The uniqueness of the 2016 vintage has inspired us to honor what Vigna Rionda means to our family: and thus, here is the Black Label, a wine of inestimable value to us.

Climatically, the 2016 vintage was characterized by a balance of both water and temperature that has rarely been seen in recent years. The extremely long growing season and the wide temperature swings that accompanied the entire season yielded wines of rare completeness and depth. Vigna Rionda, a true champion, achieved unique levels of complexity this vintage. This is why a genuine sense of awe prevents us from describing the sensory characteristics you would all expect to find here. In fact, we believe it's not only limiting to describe this tasting experience in just a few lines, but simply impossible!

Trying to describe Vigna Rionda is a challenge.

Even analyzing in detail the morphology, chemistry, and physics that govern the soil, it's not fully understood why the wines produced here are unlike any other Barolo, even those from its Serralunga "brothers." Vigna Rionda is located in the municipality of Serralunga d'Alba and sits at an altitude of approximately 330 meters above sea level.
