Grape variety: Timorasso
Montecitorio is a single-vineyard white wine produced by Walter Massa in a vineyard with a chalky base higher than the other vineyards on the property, which extend over 23 hectares. Walter Massa, who first revived this grape variety in the late 1990s, almost completely extinct in the pre-phylloxera massacre, always envisioned a free and natural wine. All fermentations are activated with indigenous yeasts. The wine is left to macerate on the skins for 1-2 days. Over the years, Timorasso has proven its ability to withstand long aging, and this Sterpi was created to reveal its finest qualities after a few years in the bottle.
The Derthona 'Montecitorio' Vigneti Massa is produced by Walter Massa, a pioneer of the Colli Tortonesi, the first to decisively focus on Timorasso, an extraordinary local grape variety that had until then been undervalued. It is obtained with a light maceration on the skins for 2-3 days.
Tasting Notes
Straw-yellow in color with golden highlights, the nose expresses strong floral and light citrus notes. On the palate, savory, mineral, and fresh notes are unmistakable traits, complementing a substantial, fleshy structure that fills the palate, providing a long finish.
Pairings
Timorasso makes an excellent aperitif, perhaps paired with cured meats and cheeses. It also pairs well with fish-based first courses..
