These birds fill the woods, the ones that now loom over the vineyards of Valtellina, once cultivated at much higher altitudes. They rarely enter the cellar, but that day one landed on an old wooden barrel, as if to warn us of something. A few days later, while tasting the wine, Isabella noticed a slight leak from one of the acacia staves. The wine seemed ready for bottling, and unfortunately, the barrel needed replacing. It was too little to decide to make a label, so she and Emanuele selected some barrels from 1997, the most ready, to make Il Pettirosso.

Arturo designed the labels first, and to continue the family tradition, Isabella asked her husband Enrico to take over the design, given the success of the first one she created: the Rosso di Valtellina.

On special evenings, Il Pettirosso can be found dining on the terraces above Sondrio, chirping merrily. Only in a few vintages do tastings in the cellar suggest making a Valtellina Superiore that is the harmonious expression of the three central DOCG zones. Macerations and aging are decided on the spot, almost like an actor improvising from a script. It seems that the script written by Arturo is fertile ground for the winemaking architecture of the new generation.
