The Vintage

2017 unfolded in three phases, three opposing directions that determined the tense character of this vintage.

In the vineyards, the year began with a mild winter. In early spring, in March, the calm was interrupted by 12 days of frost, which led to a reduction in production potential. The rest of the spring and early summer were warm and dry, conditions that favored early ripening and sugar concentration in the remaining bunches.

The rains at the end of August changed the situation: botrytis and acetic acid bacteria developed, putting the grapes at risk. As in 2005 and 2010, harvest strategy and skillful selection were essential to saving the best fruit.

The Chardonnay grapes harvested were the ripest since 2000, and the Pinot Noir grapes displayed a beautiful balance between ripeness and freshness.

The Tasting.

The wine has a dual character that captivates and enchants. Between bitterness and acidity, between sweetness and tension, between opulence and angularity, between roundness and linearity.

This duality transports you to a dreamlike world of fragrances and flavors capable of reconciling opposites. A penetrating hint of petrichor, both warm and fresh. The scent of an intoxicating flower, jasmine. The complex touch of candied peel, simultaneously vegetal and fruity, soft and grainy.

Dom Pérignon Vintage 2017 touches like a substance in zero gravity, like the fluidity of a mass in motion.

This movement is pulsating: it bubbles, then swirls.

The wine leaves the impression of an explosion of sweetness. Of those evening scents, intense and mysterious, whose trail carries us far away. Of those fluid and rhythmic dances that attract and engage. Seduction.
