Rare Cask is created from oak casks that feature an intense sweet raisin note coupled with an incredibly rich and smooth complexity. These hand selected casks are a rare and special find.

LOOKING FOR THE SINGULAR
Each cask of exceptional single malt whiskey that matures at The Macallan Estate has its own personality, with little nuances that make it unique. From time to time our whiskey makers come across casks maturing in warehouses that stand out from the rest in very particular way.

These rare casks have a 100% natural intense mahogany ruby color, an intense note of raisins and a rich and velvety mouthfeel.

RARE BARREL AND NICOLA BENEDETTI
We worked with acclaimed violinist Nicola Benedetti on Rare Cask, 2022 Release. Drawing on creativity and craftsmanship, he reflects on the flavor notes of this special release:

"There is a point where all the elements of a work of art come together and overwhelm the senses. I can appreciate the aromas of spices, raisins and the slightly nutty flavor. I've always had a sensitive reaction to scents, just such as playing a note or unraveling a chord.

The smell of oak brings me home to long weekend walks through the fields and glades of Auchinleck, near my Scottish hometown, Ayrshire. It has an atmosphere that you can only experience in Scotland.

Experiencing the greatest of creations is something we cannot fully explain.
