2022. Winter 2022 was characterized by moderate weather and, as often happens in
recent years, low rainfall. About a week later than the previous year,
at the end of March, the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines put out their first buds.
Flowering then occurred very quickly, concentrated in the second half of May. This
first vegetative phase, characterized by the lack of rainfall, on the one hand favored the health of the
grapes. On the other hand, however, the dry weather and high average temperatures meant that the looser soils
began to suffer from water stress as early as around June 20th. In the three crucial months for the vine's
vegetative growth, less than a quarter of the average rainfall
over the last ten years fell. We recorded the first rain on the evening of Thursday, July 28th.
The benefit was not negligible, but unfortunately, it was not enough to quench the thirst of our vineyards. We
had to resort to emergency irrigation systems in some vineyards, essential interventions to
safeguard the vintage's qualitative production. The harvest began on Saturday, August 6th. Two
rainfalls toward the end of the harvest, one on the evening of August 15th and one a few days later, on
the 18th, definitively marked the end of the heat and drought for 2022, postponing the harvest end date to Saturday the 21st. Harvesting took place over 14 days, with an average yield per hectare of 8,400
kilograms of grapes, equivalent to 5,300 liters of wine (must-to-fruit ratio: 63%).
Very structured Franciacortas with good acidic freshness; expressive fruit wines on an excellent
citrus base.
