THE 40 HERBS
To make Amaro Montenegro, 40 aromatic herbs are selected, in particular
spices, dried fruit, roots, seeds, barks, citrus peel, rhizomes, flowers and woods
from the four corners of the world.

COLOR
Amber and bright with delicate mahogany transparencies on the outer edges.

SMELL
Citrus entrance of great complexity.
Sweet and bitter oranges leave room for memories of cedar and mandarin.
The herbaceous vein of marjoram and thyme is gently soothed by
spicy and balsamic harmonies of incense and eucalyptus.
Toasted evolutions conclude in an elegant finish of undergrowth and
mineral scents.

TASTE
Soft and silky with a satisfying balance between sweet and bitter perceptions.
Its balanced sweetness blends with the other components
fading into a pleasantly bitter finish.

BOLOGNA, END OF THE 1800s
Bologna, in the bars under the arcades of the center, fantasizes about travel
epic, flight and speed. The gaze broadens beyond the province:
the discovery of exotic countries, new trade exchanges,
the desire for freedom and progress.
It is in this context that Amaro Montenegro was born,
the realization of an ideal that its creator later matured
having traveled and experienced with a spirit of adventure.

STANISLAO COBIANCHI
Stanislao Cobianchi was born in 1862. A proud and passionate young man
alchemist, he moves away from the religious education imposed on him by
family that wants him to be a priest and, following his instinct, embarks again
teenager, on a merchant ship in search of adventure. The discovery of
unusual botanical specialties thunders him and, back in Italy, he decides to
devote himself to the preparation of liqueurs and elixirs. In 1885, after 4 years of
rigorous experiments, Amaro Montenegro formulates and founds
the “Cobianchi Stanislao Steam Distillery”.

A ROYAL BAPTISM
Our Amaro was born in 1885 with the name of Elixir Lungavita and gets
immediately notable awards.
Only eleven years later, on the occasion of the charming's wedding
Princess Elena of Montenegro with Prince Vittorio Emanuele III,
Stanislao decides to dedicate his elixir to that royal figure,
thus changing the name to Amaro Montenegro.

THE SIGN OF AN ALCHEMY
Stanislao wants to make a bottle as unmistakable as
the elixir it contains. For this he designs an ampoule, evocative of
a "potion", the result of an alchemy that is well suited to
its complex formula. This form immediately becomes
a distinctive icon, extremely dear to his admirers,
which will remain substantially unchanged over the
decades to come.

THE UNIVERSAL AND ANNUNZIO EXHIBITIONS
In a short time Amaro Montenegro spreads throughout Europe. The first exhibitions
Universals decree its success and, as they are added
the honors, his label is enriched with medals: Brussels in 1898,
and later Hamburg, Prague, Naples, Marseille, Milan, Amsterdam ...
Amaro Montenegro's reputation is also growing at home:
it was Gabriele D'Annunzio, in 1921, who defined it "liqueur of virtues".

THE EXPANSION OF AMARO MONTENEGRO
During the twentieth century, the fame of Amaro Montenegro grows thanks
to a number of positive conditions: certainly the highest quality and
the unique taste of the product, accompanied by the passion of those who work there,
but also a successful advertising communication that they will make of it
over the years the number one bitter in Italy, increasingly popular in Europe
and overseas.
