Ferrochina is a black liqueur to be consumed usually as a digestive and tonic drink, but is often used as an aperitif. It was invented in the last decade of the nineteenth century by the Italian entrepreneur and garibaldino Felice Bisleri who patented it in 1881. The composition of ferrochina mainly includes iron citrate and cinchona, possibly mixed with other sugary compounds in order to increase its strength.
