Why It's Different
Chartreuse 1605 Liqueur D'Elixir is obtained directly from Elixir Végétal and old Chartreuse liqueurs. This edition, produced in limited quantities each year, has a strong 56% ABV. It celebrates the discovery of the manuscript with the Elixir Vegetal recipe, dating back to 1605.
How to drink it
Serve chilled or over ice, to temper its vegetal strength. It can be used as an ingredient in dessert creams.
Focus
In 1605, Duke François Hannibal D'estrès gave the Carthusian monks of the Chartreuse de Vauvert in Paris a mysterious manuscript containing the formula for an elixir of long life. After painstaking work by the Carthusian monks to decipher the formula, it was Father Jérôme Maubec, apothecary of the Grande Chartreuse, who perfected the Elixir recipe. The potential for transforming the alcoholic remedy into a drink suitable for tasting was almost immediately evident. After more than 400 years of history, the Carthusian monks revived the first recipe, calling it "Liqueur d'Elixir" to commemorate the delivery of the manuscript to the Carthusians of Vauvert in 1605.
